THE used car classified website world is hotting up – and it can only be a good thing for dealers and consumers.
Car Dealer revealed today that News UK is leveraging perhaps its most recognisable name, The Sun, and has launched Sun Motors – a used car classified website that is backed up by road tests, features and opinion pieces from some of the UK’s most well-known writers such as Jeremy Clarkson.
But Car Dealer broke the news way before The Sun wanted you to know about it. We got tipped off and wrote about it sparking the company to hastily announce the launch today. It’s a great feeling to be delivering this type of news first – news that could have a big impact on dealers’ businesses.
And don’t think the launch of Sun Motors isn’t a big deal. The website arrives just as Auto Trader has undergone a big refresh and Motors.co.uk has had a massive overhaul in look, usability and marketing direction. And while Auto Trader doesn’t look as though it’ll lose its number one position in the marketplace any time soon, more players will surely make the big names look at being more competitive – aiding both dealers and consumers.
Whether Sun Motors will be a success in the long-term is anyone’s guess. When you consider News UK already runs Driving.co.uk, powered by the Sunday Times, it’s proof the company is serious in making a go of advertising used cars.
The used car advertising world has just become a lot more colourful.
