CARGURUS has joined the line-up of award sponsors at the Car Dealer Magazine Used Car Awards on November 30.
Recently launched in the UK, auto shopping site CarGurus was set up by Langley Steinert, a co-founder of the hugely successful TripAdvisor.
The company will sponsor the Used Car Website of the Year category this year.
CarGurus has had a major impact in the US market where it recently overtook AutoTrader in terms of daily traffic.
Looking to make a similar impression in the UK, CarGurus is highly selective in its marketing, building on word-of-mouth.
‘We have spent quite a lot of time talking to car dealers, particularly independent ones, and Car Dealer magazine was on the desk of loads of people,’ said Diego Sanson, CarGurus Director of International Operations.
‘We actually enquired about it and said ‘‘do your really read it or is it just nice to have?’’ and people said ‘‘no, I take it home and read it’’.’
Sanson added: ‘One of the key reasons to work with (Car Dealer) is that you are the magazine that people read. They get lots of them but yours is the one the car dealers really get their teeth into.
‘Everyone’s getting the magazine, so associating with your mission and what James (Baggott) is doing, and the level of entrepreneurship, really is what we want to associate ourselves with.’
CarGurus’ unique offering is that, like TripAdvisor, it offers consumer ratings and reviews on individual car dealers, as well as a five-stage car price assessment from ‘great deal’ through ‘fair deal’ to ‘overpriced’ within the specific market area.
The Dealer Used Car Website of the Year Award is one of 20 categories which will be recognised and honoured at the awards ceremony. Most of the award sponsorships have been snapped up, but a few opportunities remain for a company to put their name out there at the biggest automotive award event of the year.
