Motor Codes is planning a code of practice for used car sales, and Car Dealer has been asked to help shape it.
Foillowing the success of the Code of Practice for Service and Repair outlets, Motor Codes is to begin a consultation with the industry for a Code of Practice for the second hand car market.
Director Chris Mason has asked a number of industry figures if they would be prepared to assist shaping the code – and Car Dealer is one of them.
‘I am pleased to announce that Motor Codes will soon begin a consultation on the development of a code of practice for used car sales to complete the set of automotive self-regulation that it was established to operate,’ said Mason.
‘With commercial pressures and the economic downturn bringing greater focus on used car sales from the perspective of both industry and the consumer, it is important that responsible retailers have a central means of demonstrating their credibility, setting them apart as a trustworthy business, providing reassurance and protection throughout the search and transaction process.’
Mason said that just like the service and repair code, the used car version will take the self-regulation approach and offer an effective advisory and dispute resolution service for dealers and consumers.
He added: ‘It will be further supported by an online customer survey generating real time feedback and business performance ratings.
‘It is vital that the Code encompasses the needs of all those it will affect and with this in mind, we will soon begin a thorough consultation process.’
