SMMT chiefs and representatives from the automotive industry have just emerged from a crunch meeting with business secretary Lord Mandleson.
The meeting was called to discuss urgent Government aid for the motor industry. Also present were Ian Pearson MP and Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform officials.
SMMT chief executive, Paul Everitt, said: ‘The industry outlined the scope and scale of the challenges it faces, and the unprecedented difficulties in the marketplace.
‘We emphasised the urgent need to address liquidity and restore demand, and discussed a variety of measures to address these challenges.
‘Government and industry have agreed to explore, collaboratively, a range of solutions, in a timescale that matches the urgency of the situation.’
