Lookers buys up van centre from defunct Verve

Time 2:50 pm, December 18, 2013

21154_300LOOKERS has acquired the ex-Verve Motor Group Volkswagen Van centre in Glasgow from administrators KPMG.

Last month, Car Dealer broke the news of Verve’s administration. The dealer operated three dealerships across central Scotland as well as a bodyshop and van centre.

Lookers’ deal secures the employment of all 36 employees who worked in the former division located in Baillieston and positions the firm for further expansion in Scotland where it already employs more than 400 staff members.

This deal follows Lookers’ acquisition of the ex-Shields Land Rover business in south Glasgow back in May, which has now been rebranded as Taggarts to follow in line with the company’s other Land Rover and Jaguar dealerships in Glasgow and Motherwell.

Andy Bruce, chief operating officer and incoming chief executive at Lookers, said: ‘We are delighted to have the opportunity to add to our growing dealership portfolio in Scotland through the acquisition of Volkswagen Van Centre Glasgow, which underlines our commitment to further growing our relationship with the wider Volkswagen Group.’

He added: ‘We are also pleased that we have managed to successfully secure a future for the majority of the talented workforce previously employed at the site – many of whom have several years of valuable collective experience and understanding of the local marketplace and customer needs.’
