MERCEDES-BENZ expects an uplift in the residual value of some of its key best-sellers.
This is because greener cars are in demand. To capitalise, from the end of the year, the maker is rolling out its new BlueEfficiency range of models.
Models will include the C 180 K, the A 150 and A 160 CDI. These cars have been chosen first because they are the best-sellers in the range.
They will be marked out by special BlueEfficiency badges on the front wings. It is this that will lead to better retained values.
As Nick Williams, product group manager at Mercedes UK, explains, car buyers have quickly realised the benefits of green technology in saving them money. It is not just about having a clear ecological conscience anymore.
‘The cars are simply more desirable from a fiscal point of view. They return more miles to the gallon and have lower tax rates (for both company car drivers and private motorists). They also enjoy lower whole life costs’
‘That is why we make a clear statement with them, by fitting the badges on the front wings. For no change in list price, they will be worth £500-£600 more in terms of RVs alone, and that’s before you consider the lower running costs.’
It is a compelling argument. And the reason why dealers will be clamouring for them in a few years at the auction halls.
