NISSAN is trialling a courtesy vehicle scheme for Nissan Leaf owners with a difference – an electric bike!
At the SMMT test day the manufacturer had one of the £500 bikes on show for journalists to drive, but many thought it was a joke.
However a spokesman confirmed the bikes – branded as Leafs – really are being used by customers to get home when their real Leafs are being fixed.
‘Buying a Leaf is like becoming a vegetarian, it’s a whole lifestyle change,’ explained the Nissan spokesman.
‘When they come into a dealer for service work on their Leaf they want a Leaf as a courtesy car, but that isn’t possible. They see petrol as dirty and don’t really want to be seen driving a normal car – but they seem to be happy with a bike.’
The bikes are being tested out at seven Nissan dealers across the country and if they prove popular will be rolled out to the entire Nissan Leaf network.
