Staff from Wessex Garages walk Newport Transporter Bridge

DSC_2171STAFF from Wessex Garages have walked across the Newport Transporter Bridge to raise money for St David’s Hospice Care.

Eight staff members from the dealership based in Newport Retail Park scaled the 242ft high bridge and walked 645ft to other side, raising £210 for the charity.

After walking the first distance, the team never actually intended to walk all the way back again, but due to high-winds, the gondola that had been organised to take them down was unable to fetch them – this also explains why they managed to lose their fancy dress yellow wigs!

Digital sales executive, Matt Nolan, told he South Wales Argus: We are very pleased that we have raised £210 for the charity. We had a great time. Some of the team are scared of heights so it was a real challenge for them. We had friends and family members taking part too.

‘Originally, the plan was to walk up and get the gondola to take us back. However, when we reached the end of the bridge we were told it was too windy for the gondola to operate and we would have to walk back over again. This time the wind was really battering us. It was quite an experience.’

He added: ‘Due to the gusts of wind we lost several of our yellow wigs that we were wearing. We are all glad we made it back in one piece.’
