AN AWARD-WINNING car dealership with outlets across South Wales and the South West is organising a football match in aid of several charities.
Wessex Garages will host the event at the Newport International Sports Village on June 14, 2016, and the money raised will be donated to the firm’s seven chosen charities of the year.
Keith Brock, MD at Wessex Garages, said: ‘Ahead of the European Championship game of Wales versus England on June 16, we thought it would be a great idea to host a charity football match between all of the Wessex Garages’ branches in Wales against all of the branches in England.
‘We have three dealerships in Wales and four in England and members of staff from each outlet will form a Welsh team and an English team and battle it out on the pitch.’
He added: ‘As well as being a great team building exercise, the event is to raise money for our charities of the year, which are St David’s Hospice Care in Newport, George Thomas Hospice Care in Cardiff, Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales, Dance Voice in Bedminster, The Leukaemia & Intensive Chemotherapy Fund (LINC) in Cheltenham, St Peter’s Hospice in Bristol and The Rainbow Centre for Children also in Bristol.’
Donations will be collected on the evening of the event and Wessex Garages is taking £2 bets from all staff on the result of the game. All winning bets will then be entered into a raffle, where the first person drawn will win an extra day of holiday, while the second person drawn will win half of a day holiday. The money raised during the event will be split between the chosen charities.
The Wessex Garages’ charity football match will take place on Tuesday, June 14 from 8pm at Newport International Sports Village on Velodrome Way in Newport.
