Hyundai Ioniq scores five-star Euro NCAP rating

Time 9:38 am, November 30, 2016

THE new Hyundai Ioniq has received the maximum five-star safety rating from the independent vehicle assessment organisation Euro NCAP.

In the test, the Ioniq achieved 91 per cent in adult occupant safety, 80 per cent for child occupant safety, 70 per cent in the pedestrian category and 82 per cent for safety assists, which were among the highest ratings in each category for any car in the small family segment.

The Ioniq features a long list of standard active safety features on all versions, including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist and adaptive smart cruise control.

Hyundai offers three electric powertrains in the Ioniq, making it the first car in the world to be offered in hybrid, plug-in hybrid and full electric options. The hybrid and electric models are on sale now across Europe, while the Ioniq plug-in will be introduced in 2017.

Thomas A Schmid, chief operating officer of Hyundai Motor Europe, said: ‘The five-star rating from Euro NCAP for the Ioniq underlines the benefits of Hyundai Motor’s approach to democratising technology. State-of-the-art active safety features are fitted as standard in all versions, making the Ioniq one of the safest cars in its segment and a safe and accessible e-mobility choice for customers.’
