PREMIUM marque Lexus is launching two voluntary recalls in the UK affecting three of its most popular models.
The maker has found that its IS, GS and RX models have been affected by brake master cylinder and fuel pump problems.
The news is a reminder of the accelerator and brake problems which resulted in a mass recall of models experienced by parent-company Toyota earlier this year.
Brake fluid leaking into the brake booster has prompted the first recall says the manufacturer, although Lexus assures owners that ‘the brakes will continue to function normally for a significant time – over 200 miles of regular driving’.
Lexus is also adamant that they know of no accidents caused by this issue which affects IS, GS and RX models built between February 2003 and November 2005 – approximately 15,400 UK vehicles in the UK.
Fuel pump problems on the upmarket GS 300 models built between September 2004 and February 2006 have caused the second recall. Expansion and contraction of the fuel tank are the causes say Lexus, which could result in the engine stopping without warning.
Again the maker is certain that of ‘no reported accidents’ – a recall that affects 2,081 GS 300s in the UK.
Belinda Poole Lexus director, said: ‘We apologise for any inconvenience or concern these recalls may cause our customers. Our Lexus Centres will be liaising with our customers to carry out the recall repair procedures as promptly as possible, with all work undertaken by expertly trained Lexus service personnel.’
Lexus is working with VOSA to contact owners by letter to advise them to take their vehicle to a Lexus Centre or an Official Lexus Service Outlet for the necessary repair work to be done.
