New Year Resolutions

Time 6:47 am, January 25, 2011

oft-survey-have-your-say1EXCHANGE and Mart has revealed that 38 per cent of visitors to its site have made motoring-themed New Year’s Resolutions.

The survey offers dealers an insight into consumer motoring aspirations for 2011, and buyers trading their current car for a greener vehicle topped the list.

Michael Tang, Exchange and Mart’s marketing communications manager, said: ‘Our survey shows that of those vowing to make changes this year, 30 per cent want to trade in their current vehicle for a greener model, and another 30 per cent are looking for a smaller car.

‘In 2010, the same percentage of people planned to go for a greener car, but just 20 per cent were on the lookout for a smaller model – suggesting that in 2011 the demand for smaller and more fuel efficient cars, both new and used, will continue to grow. The survey also showed that an encouraging 55 per cent of 2010 resolutions were kept.

‘Reducing mileage, last year’s top of the chart with a massive 37 per cent, has dropped to third place with 25 per cent of people cutting down on journeys. This may suggest that motorists are looking for sustainable ways to be greener and cut costs this year. Together with the fact that 23 per cent of resolutions promise more regular car servicing, this is great news for the dealer and worth bearing in mind when it comes to marketing vehicles and after-sales services.’
