Free EV charging

Time 2:50 am, May 29, 2011

leaf-londonCHARGING an EV in London is now even simpler and cheaper due to a new charging network.

Source London provides a network of more than 1,300 charging points – by 2013 – across the capital which will be situated in streets, car parks, and supermarket car parks, and the scheme costs £100 across all boroughs.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: ‘I want to rapidly accelerate the uptake of electric vehicles and make London the epicentre of electric driving in Europe.

‘Increasing numbers of motorists are opting for cleaner, greener electric transport, delivering a host of benefits to the driver including a 100 per cent congestion charge discount. This is set to deliver considerable environmental benefits to our city.

‘Through Source London we want to give drivers the confidence that they can plug into this fantastic new motoring technology.’

However Nissan is giving all Leaf owners who within 40 miles free subscription to the scheme if they buy a Leaf by the end of the year, and will reimburse existing Leaf owners too.

Paul Willcox, managing director of Nissan Motor (GB) Limited said: ‘Nissan fully supports the Mayor’s agenda to promote zero carbon emission vehicles in London, which is why we are providing free access to the network for all Leaf owners across the capital. A city-wide charging infrastructure will be of great benefit to all Nissan Leaf owners.’
