JAMES MAY is going to be back on the screen soon presenting a TV programme about cars. But calm down… it’s not a return to Top Gear.
He’ll be fronting a two-week BBC2 programme called Building Cars Live, which will show how a car is put together on BMW’s Mini plant in Oxford.
His other presenters are Kate Humble, of Springwatch fame, and Ant Anstead, a presenter on Channel 4’s For The Love Of Cars.
The BBC says the show will go behind the scenes of the UK’s car manufacturing industry to explain the science and engineering involved, and will consist of two 90 minute live episodes. It will air in the autumn.
The programmes will track in real time the transformation from raw materials to the finished vehicle. It will also ‘step outside the factory’, visiting car manufacturers across the UK to ‘bust the myth that British manufacturing is dead’.
