Brian Leighton Garages ‘closed until further notice’

Screen shot 2014-06-18 at 15.35.09BRIAN Leighton Garages, in Howden, East Yorkshire, has closed its doors until further notice, after 48 years in business.

Established in 1966, the company was a main dealer for Nissan, Isuzu and SsangYong as well as an approved Land Rover service centre and bodyshop.

Some reports have said the company has gone into administration although Car Dealer has been told that is not the case. From the business’s social media presence, it would appear that there have been a number of job losses – we understand that as many as 70 people may have been made redundant.

A tweet posted by the business said yesterday: ‘We hope that all our loyal, hard-working staff find alternative positions soon.’

Another message added: ‘We would like to thank all our customers and employees for their support over the last 48 years. It is a very sad day for us.’

A family owned-business, Brian Leighton Garages prided itself on its ‘quality service and the good, dependable vehicles’ it sold.

The dealership in Boothferry Road is around 20 minutes’ drive from cities such as Hull, York and Leeds.

An employee at the company who declined to give a name, told us today: ‘It’s a shame – I think it comes down to a cash flow issue.’

More on this story soon.
