WESSEX GARAGES will take part in Bristol’s dragon boat race on September 22 to raise money for charity.
Thirty-four employees from Feeder Road and Pennywell Road will take part in the race at Bristol’s Baltic Wharf to raise more than £1,000 for Penny Brohn Cancer Care and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Each team will have crews of 16 paddlers along with a drummer and will race in Chinese-style Dragon Boats over a 250-metre course.
According to This is Bristol, the members of the Feeder Road team will wear Macmillan Cancer Support t-shirts and green afro wigs, while the Pennywell team will dress in Penny Brohn Cancer Care t-shirts and purple wigs.
The races will run from approximately 10.00am until 4.00pm and there will be a minimum of three races per team on the day.
At last year’s Bristol event 30 teams entered, raising £50,000 for 28 charities.
Managing director of Wessex Garages, Keith Brock, told This is Bristol: ‘We thought the dragon boat race at Bristol’s Baltic Wharf would be a great team building exercise for the dealerships.
‘They can also battle it out to see who reigns supreme when it comes to physical and fundraising prowess.
He added: ‘Each dealership will be raising money for their Charity of the Year. The Pennywell team will fundraise for Penny Brohn Cancer Care and the Feeder team will take part in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
‘We are hoping to raise £1,750 for each charity.’
