Flexible furlough, making switch to selling electric cars and busy Scottish dealers – all on Car Dealer Live this week

From the flexible furlough scheme through to a family firm switching to selling electric cars to dealers reporting strong business north of the board, there was plenty to listen to on this week’s Car Dealer Live.

Every week the Car Dealer Magazine editorial team try and put together an interesting line-up of guests for Car Dealer Live. The Live shows are designed to be chatty, informal and to give viewers something to ponder.

This week , Lawgistics returned for a special legal show, Matt Cleevely from family firm Cleevely Electric Vehicles appeared mid-week and ending the line-up was the Scottish Motor Trade Association’s Sandy Burgess.

Here’s what you might have missed this week…

Monday – Lawgistics legal special


Lawgistics’s Nona Bowkis and Kiril Moskovchuk came on the show to discuss issues around the flexible furlough scheme, £1,000 bonuses for dealers who keep employees in a job until January 2021 and redundancies.

The pair also clarified rules surrounding test drives and face coverings in the workplace.

Wednesday – Cleevely Electric Vehicles’ Matt Cleevely

Cleevely Motors has been repairing cars and looking after customer since 1962. The family firm is currently headed up by the founder’s grandson and continues to do a fine trade.

But after a poor experience trying to buy an electric car, current owner Matt decided to create a side business specialising in the sales and servicing of electric cars, and created Cleevely Electric Vehicles.

As more and more dealers need to consider adapting to looking after electric car customers, find out one man made the switch.

Friday – Scottish Motor Trade Association

With Scottish dealers getting back to work some 28 days after their English counterparts, we wanted to hear how business has been since dealerships north of the border opened on June 29.

Its chief executive, Sandy Burgess, appeared on the show on Friday and gave viewers an update on business has been and expressed his frustrations at the lack of clear guidance from the Scottish government when dealers reopened.
