Car dealers have sold over 1100 of the 2133-strong shipload, as sales increases up demand for the models.

Chevrolet doesn’t expect the remaining load of 1000 cars for stock to remain in the system for long.

‘We’re thrilled to see such a large batch of cars arriving here,’ said Chevrolet MD, Mark Terry.

‘We’ve seen demand grow massively with three successive months of sales increases, and our stock levels were lower than normal as a result.’

The 30,000 metric tonne ship also contained the first order of Cruze models, in time for its launch in car dealer showrooms this month.

Terry was delighted to see so many pre-sold cars in the delivery. ‘The fact that over half of the cars on the ship were factory-ordered vehicles, already sold to customers, shows just how popular the Chevrolet brand has become in the UK.

‘And as these cars become more visible on the roads, we should expect that popularity to grow further.’
