HAVE you ever sold a car with an interesting past and received a bit of a backlash for doing so?
Probably not, but one dealer in Germany is causing quite a stir after posting a rather unusual car with a chilling history on his website.
Among the listings for glamorous Aston Martins, Bentleys and classic British sports cars on his webpage, Michael Frohlich of the Oldtimer Agency is offering a car that once belonged to Heinrich Himmler – one of the chief Nazis who oversaw the Holocaust!
Frohlich is asking the princely sum of just under £400,000 for the ‘war machine’ and writes (translated from German): ‘This so-called SUV has a special history and was only built because a prominent and famous “politician” was able to drive to Russia. But that was not a holiday! He was accompanied by thousands of nearly identical-looking men who were very worried and had utensils to defend themselves.’
It’s a military-spec 1939 Wanderer W11/1 with just 63,500km on the clock and, according to the Daily Mail, was used by head of the SS Himmler to inspect Russian battlefields and visit concentration camps. The dealer says he has already received interest in the car but hasn’t sold it yet as he considered the interest came from neo-Nazis.
The machine has been confirmed by military historians to be the high-ranking Nazi’s car and is thought to have been used throughout the war by Himmler.
