‘The Dealership’ focuses on the inner workings of a used car dealership in Essex and airs on Channel 4 on August 1, 2013.
The three-part series will take a look under the bonnet of the family-run Essex Motor Company in Rainham to reveal the secrets of ‘flogging motors’.
Viewers will be given an insight into the reality behind the salesmen patter, and how customers are giving dealers a run for their money more than ever before.
Each episode will highlight the difficulties salesmen face living on commission and will shadow the team during their everyday activities and what measures they will go to, to secure a deal.
With finances tight, The Dealership will also introduce views to buyers with an eye for a bargain and willing to put the pressure on the sales team.
Channel 4 deputy head of factual, Nick Mirsky, said: ‘It is a fantastic opportunity to spend time with an enormously charismatic group of workers. You can’t sell a car without having a way with words – and watching them on TV is a great chance to enjoy their talents without having to worry about your overdraft.’
Richard Macer of Platform Productions added: ‘Car dealing in recession-hit Britain is a tough existence. Over the six months filming at the Essex Car Company we found that the profit margins are not what they used to be and for the sales staff it really is survival of the fittest. Second hand car dealers here need to live off their wits and have the gift of the gab in order to take home the bacon.’
