THE SMMT has revealed the speakers attending its ‘Moving towards an ultra-low carbon future’ session at its summit.
At its International Automotive Summit to be held in Westminster on June 28, the technology-focused session will include presentations from internationally renowned experts in high-efficiency internal combustion, hybrid power, electric vehicles and low-energy manufacture.
Constantinos Vafidis, Fiat powertrain research and technology, transmissions and hybrids director, will look at the role the internal combustion engine can continue to play in a low carbon future, especially when combined with hybrid technology.
The present and future of electric vehicles will be addressed by Jon Goodman, managing director of Peugeot UK.
The company launched the iOn in January this year, so Goodman is ideally placed to speak about the early reception of electric vehicles – says the SMMT.
Goodman will also look at the role that personal mobility packages such as Peugeot’s Mu scheme can play in offering an alternative to conventional car ownership models.
Peter Richings, Jaguar Land Rover’s chief engineer, hybrids, will speak about the company’s efforts to drive down emissions.
He will explore the progress Jaguar Land Rover is making with hybrid technology, and how more efficient manufacture, combined with lower tailpipe emissions, can reduce industry’s total carbon footprint.
Following the formal presentations from manufacturer representatives, they will be joined on the Q&A panel by Angus Wilby, head of energy services at EDF Energy, Michael Hurwitz, director of the office for Low Emission Vehicles, who will give an insight on the first six months of the Plug-In Car Grant and Dr Ben Lane of the transport consultancy, Ecolane, will talk about how to market effectively low carbon vehicles to consumers and give an independent overview of the competing emerging technologies.
