A CAR Dealer being sent to jail for selling a dangerous vehicle caused a moment of unintentional humour in court – his mobile phone went off and played the theme to The Great Escape.
Neil Gaffney was being sent down at Birmingham Crown Court after being given a five-month jail sentence.
The court had heard that Gaffney, aged 48, from the Kings Norton area of the city, had misled a family who had bought a £1,400 Nissan Terrano from him, which he claimed drove almost as good as new.
In fact, the Birmingham Mail reported, it turned out to be a badly-corroded vehicle which was potentially dangerous to drive.
The victims, who had five children, had to then take out a loan to buy another vehicle, the court heard.
Only time will tell if Gaffney’s ring tone was of any particular significance…
