Swift hits two million

Time 7:03 am, March 7, 2011

suzuki-swift-2010-copySUZUKI has announced its successful Swift supermini is a winner with customers – it’s reached the two million mark.

Global sales of the stylish supermini have hit the two million mark, and since its launch to market in May 2005, 60,000 Swifts have found homes with UK customers.

The car is important to dealers too as it accounts for around 38 per cent of the UK sales mix.

Part of this success is the breadth of countries that build the Swift. It was first built in Japan, followed by Hungary, China, India and more recently Indonesia and Malaysia – but European cars are built at Suzuki’s Magyar plant in Hungary.

Globally, around 15 per cent of Swift sales are in Japan, 39 per cent in India and 27 per cent in Europe with the remainder from other world markets; Swift is driven in 124 Countries and regions of the world and has won 67 awards in 26 countries.

Suzuki has also revealed that the Swift range is growing too with a more environmentally-friendly model – a low emissions 1.3-;itre DDiS diesel (109g/km) will be available this summer.

Meanwhile Suzuki tempted the world’s press last week with the very yellow Swift S-CONCEPT – a sporty Swift prototype.
