Toyota’s 20 millionth

Time 6:10 am, November 12, 2010

20-m-toyotaA TOYOTA Verso 2.0-litre D-4D has had the honour of being Toyota’s 20 millionth vehicle delivered in Europe.

The landmark was reached 10 years on from the firm’s last celebration of 10 million Toyotas in the year 2000.

The Japanese manufacturer first sold cars to Europeans in 1963, supplying 190 Crown models to a Danish distributor.

In 2010, Toyota has 9 production sites across Europe making it one of the continent’s leading motor manufacturers.

Britain is a key player in Toyota’s European plans. With its Burnaston car plant – which is the ‘selected’ plant for the Auris hybrid – and the engine factory at Deeside in North Wales, Toyota has sold more than 2.7 million vehicles to British buyers alone.

The Toyota Verso 2.0 D-4D that reached the landmark figure was built in Turkey and delivered to a customer in Madrid.

Miguel Fonseca, vice president sales & marketing Toyota Motor Europe and Mr Orhan Özer president and CEO of Toyota Motor Manufacturers Turkey were present at the handover ceremony.
