Toyota Prius was Auto Trader’s fastest-selling car in April

Time 11:16 am, May 4, 2017

According to Auto Trader statistics, the 2014 automatic Toyota Prius was the fastest-selling used car in April, taking an average of 14 days to sell.

In addition to the Prius, another car from the Japanese marque made the top 10 list. The 2012 petrol automatic Toyota Yaris placed at sixth with an average turnover time of 19 days.

This is not the first time Toyota has dominated the national list – in February 2014, the Prius and Yaris were at first and second place respectively.

Coming second on April’s national list was the 2016 diesel manual Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, which took an average of 15 days to sell, followed by the 2016 petrol automatic Ford Mondeo at 16 days.

In terms of the regional lists, the Blue Oval was the most successful manufacturer, with the fastest-selling cars in seven regions.

While an electric-hybrid took the top spot nationally, the battle of the fuel types ended up being almost a draw between petrol and diesel regionally. The former took London, the North West, Northern Ireland, the South West, Wales, the West Midlands and Yorkshire, while the latter dominating in East England, the East Midlands, the North East, Scotland, the South and the South East.

Auto Trader found that dealers who use its i-Control data management solution took an average of 26 days to sell a car, 58 per cent faster than those that don’t, with the overall market average standing at 62 days.

Auto Trader retailer and consumer products director, Karolina Edwards-Smajda, said: ‘2017 has been a strong year so far for Toyota. Both the Prius and the Yaris have excellent reputations for reliability and fuel economy, ensuring a healthy demand in the used car market and a dependable investment for dealers.

‘As we can see from the range of vehicles making up the top 10 lists across the UK, there remains a healthy demand for all fuel types of used cars. Coupled with personal sales experience, data can be an effective tool in identifying which vehicles are the most desirable in your area. It can also tell you how much they should be priced based on the live retail market, helping you to build trust with your customers, and importantly, helping you to sell more cars more quickly.’

Sales director of Toyota Britain, Mark Roden, said: ‘It’s great to hear that the huge surge in hybrid sales we’re seeing in new cars across the range is also helping sell pre-owned Toyotas too. It’s very clear the public are embracing hybrid as the solution not only to air quality issues, but also fuel economy and enhanced cabin ambience.’
