Toyota fuel system recall

Time 3:21 am, January 26, 2011

lexus_jdpower_isfTOYOTA GB has announced it will recall specific models ‘as a result of customer feedback in other markets worldwide’.

The announcement will affect approximately 15,500 of Toyota’s Avensis models and 3,100 Lexus IS250s in the UK.

Owners will be notified by letter of the firm’s recall to carry out modifications to the cars’ fuel systems.

2.0-litre and 2.4-litre petrol engine Avensis models are affected – produced between July 2000 and September 2008 – and concern the fuel pipe where cracks can develop over time,  and ‘insufficient tightening of the fuel pump check valve’. Toyota says: ‘In the worst case, these issues may cause fuel to leak.’

‘Insufficient tightening’ is also the reason for the recall of certain Lexus IS 250 petrol engine models, but affects the fuel pressure sensor. Cars produced between August 2007 and February 2009 are affected.

Jon Williams, managing director of Toyota GB PLC, said: ‘We are committed to putting the customer first and have a total focus on the quality of all our products. We will liaise with our customers to carry out the repair procedures as efficiently as possible, with minimal disruption.’

Toyota GB is adamant that no accidents have been caused due to the issues.
