SEEING lots of punters standing by your cars, texting on their phones? Not an uncommon occurrence, you’d wager.

But note – they may just be taking the opportunity to gen up on what sort of value you’re offering.

That’s because Exchange & Mart has launched an SMS valuation service, powered by CAP. Buyers can text the vehicle registration and mileage to a special number – and in minutes will receive ‘good’, ‘average’ and ‘below average’ prices for that vehicle.


The specification, registration and mileage will also be confirmed, helping detect cloning, clocking and other such cheating.

Debra Healy, digital director at Exchange & Mart, said: ‘With used car prices changing almost daily in an unsettled climate, buyers would be wise to keep on top of the most current values.

‘Our new valuation service benefits from CAP, offering used car buyers the ultimate in guidance when shopping around for a good deal on wheels.’


Interesting advice from Healey on how to treat the values, too. ‘We would advise used car buyers to walk away if a vehicle is being offered for less than 70% of its valuation price. Anything that seems too good to be true probably is…’
