JAGUAR has sprung a Christmas surprise, with a groundbreaking new 3.0-litre diesel variant of the XF.
The XF V6 Diesel S has just been unveiled – which combines acceleration to 60mph in 5.5 seconds with average fuel economy of 42mpg.
Capable of 155mph, the new XF V6 Diesel S is 12 per cent more economical than the current 2.7-litre V6 diesel. It also emits 179g/km of CO2, a 10 per cent reduction.
Yet the 275PS unit is 33 per cent more powerful. And, with a staggering 600Nm of torque, has 61 per cent more pulling power! Indeed, Jaguar claims V8 levels of performance.
The new engine has twin turbochargers – and the parallel sequential system is a world first for a ‘V’ engine. The set up uses one small and one large turbo, boosting torque and giving lag-free throttle response.
They also help the engine meet strict Euro 5 emissions regulations, which may give car buyers tax breaks in the future.
‘With CO2 emissions of 179g/km, 42mpg average fuel economy and 0-60mph acceleration in 5.9 seconds, this is another great example of Jaguar delivering unrivalled performance, while at the same time taking the level of refinement in diesel engines to a whole new level,’ said Mick Mohan, Jaguar Programmes Director.
Car buyers will spot the new V6 Diesel S, which arrives in the spring, from unique 19-inch alloy wheels, a boot spoiler and ‘S’ badges on the bootlid.
Jaguar will also offer a cheaper 240PS version of the new 3.0-litre engine. This hits 60mph in 6.7 seconds, and matches the faster engine’s fuel economy and CO2 figures.
The firm also took the opportunity to reveal the XF is due to receive a round of ‘significant’ trim and specifications changes. This will introduce ‘many new features’, and also see a luxurious Portfolio version introduced.
Prices for the 3.0-litre Diesel S start at £36,900. The 240PS version will cost from £32,900. Jaguar dealer’s order books are open now; deliveries will start in March.
