STAFF at Jennings Ford are putting the wheels in motion for a free cycling event in Teesside next month.
Keen cyclists across the area are being invited to take part in a Tour de Ford-led ride, which will start and finish at the motor dealer group’s Yarm Road-based dealership in Stockton-on-Tees.
Ford, which is Team Sky’s exclusive supplier of cars and vans, is hosting Tour de Ford events around the country. The free group cycle rides will be accompanied by Team Sky-liveried Ford Mondeo estate cars – the same vehicles used to support the Tour de France-winning team, including four-time champion Chris Froome.
On the day, cyclists will tackle two routes of approximately 30 and 50 miles, alongside a number of support vehicles, including two being supplied by Jennings Ford. The non-competitive rides will follow a route plotted on Strava, the social network for athletes.
Ray Riaz, general manager at the Stockton-based dealership, sales controller Lee Spence and sales executive/deputy business manager Paul Nixon are all taking part in the event on Saturday, August 18.
Riaz said: ‘We’re delighted to be hosting the event, which is expected to attract scores of keen cyclists as well as members from local professional groups.’
Tour de Ford celebrates Ford’s partnership with Team Sky. The agreement gives Team Sky access to a range of Ford vehicles to provide specific support for all key areas of the Team Sky racing and non-racing programme.
Last year, 23 dealerships held a Tour de Ford event, with more than 1,600 participants.
