Time 9:00 am, March 8, 2013

slk_class_002MERCEDES-BENZ was the most popular premium brand in February, according to figures from the SMMT.

The number of registrations for the German brand’s cars overtook both Audi and BMW in February, though Audi remains the top seller year-to-date.

Mercedes-Benz’s C Class did particularly well – finding its self in the top 10 best selling models chart once again, just beating the Nissan Juke to ninth place.

In fact, the C Class saloon and coupe; E Class saloon, estate, coupe and cabriolet; SLK, CLS and S-Class all occupied the top spots in their respective segments.

The AMG performance brand also performed well – achieving a 167.8 per cent gain in registrations compared with February last year. The C 63 AMG Coupe lead the gain, with registrations up 188.9 per cent in February.

The relatively new B-Class is also ‘thriving’ – with registrations up 277.1 per cent – while Mercedes-Benz’s sub brand Smart saw sales of its ForTwo achieving a 32.8 per cent rise.

‘To be the Number One premium brand in the UK in February is a great achievement and testament to the hard work and commitment of my colleagues throughout the Retailer network and at Mercedes-Benz UK,’ said Marcus Breitschwerdt, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz UK.

‘Now we’ll be devoting even more energy to achieving it again, as this is a result we’ll be aiming to repeat as the year goes on. With exciting new models, including the CLA and New E-Class on the verge of arriving in the UK, we are in a fantastic position for the future.’
