Audi up for grabs

Time 9:40 am, August 11, 2008

audi-image-for-press-releas.jpgRELOCATING to a new site will, in early 2009, leave Edinburgh Audi’s current premises up for grabs.

To prepare for this, Cushman & Wakefield has been appointed to dispose of the dealership on Seafield Road East.

One of four established dealerships in the city, it spans over 20,000 sq ft (nearly 2000 sq m) and is located very prominently next to the busy road.

Colin Lawrence-Waterhouse, of Cushman & Wakefield, said: ‘The premises… offer a high quality showroom area to the front of the main building, with a substantial workshop space to the rear.’

‘With surrounding occupiers including Peter Vardy BMW, Murray Volvo and Arnold Clark Motor Store, I have no doubt that there will be significant interest.’

Edinburgh retains its appeal to car dealers, said Lawrence-Waterhouse. Furthermore, ‘franchise operators are still being encouraged by manufacturers to expand their business, in anticipation of future growth in the motor trade sector.’

‘This often leads to relocation and, with a shortage of leasehold stock in the city at present, opportunities for operators to acquire premises of this type are rare.’

Even rarer, we reckon, is the opportunity to buy a site already prepared to Audi’s high standards. We’ll follow this one with interest, to see just what sort of businesses are drawn…
