bangers1

Goodbye sweet 406, we'll miss you!

THE first wave of cars to be sold as part of our Bangers4BEN challenge raised thousands of pounds today.

At an auction at BCA’s Blackbushe site, 17 of our bangers were sold for the grand total of £7,190 – every penny of which goes to BEN!

A few cars were missing from the sale – some were at the site but hadn’t been identified as BEN bangers, so these will be sold at another auction on Friday.

A few others were missing too. One died in active service, another was bought by the team that ran it for £750, and a few others were missing documents so will be sold by our friends at Bluecycle, the salvage experts.

Unfortunately the sale, which was supposed to start at 1.30pm, was underway by the time we arrived at 12.30pm, so we didn’t manage to capture all the cars on film.

The results were mixed with some cars making up to 350 per cent of the CAP guide price with others registering only 43 per cent.

‘The overall sale, despite the fact prices were all over the place, made 98 per cent of CAP clean, which is pretty good going,’ said BCA PR man Tim Naylor.

Stars of the day included the Toyota Avensis from Team GRS (YE51) which went for £1,225, Shine’s Renault Scenic (X885) sold for £775 to Shine MD Paul himself, and Honda’s Prelude (BEZ) which sold for £600, again back to Honda.

Our car was sold superbly by the auctioneer. Playing up the fact it had a year’s MOT, 6 months tax and had just been lovingly fettled by Peugeot themselves, it went for an amazing £675 – and considering we paid £0 for it we’re hoping that’s a total that’ll be hard to beat…

At the moment we can’t announce the winner because this will be decided on the profit made by each team.

Each entrant will be asked to send in their original sales invoices which will be deducted from the sale price to reveal our winners (if you took part send them in now!).

This year we didn’t make raising additional sponsorship mandatory so we won’t be including any totals raised there when deciding our winner  – however, some teams have done an AMAZING job raising extra cash, so we will be sending the team that raised the most another of the cool valve trophies we had produced for the event.
