1280px-Volkswagen_XL_driver_sideBURTON-upon-Trent dealership TL Darby has thanked the local community for its loyalty and patience over recent months by giving them a chance to see the car of the future.

The Volkswagen dealership held a series of celebratory events for VIP guests and local families in recognition of the support received over recent months while the company relocated to new premises at Centrum East Retail Park.

Star attraction at the events was the Volkswagen XL1, a super-efficient supercar designed to deliver 300mpg in style.

Jessica Liptrot, marketing assistant at TL Darby, said: ‘The last few weeks have been a whirl of excitement here, moving from our former site in New Street to this purpose-built showroom.

‘People have been incredibly supportive and patient, sticking with us through the transition and continuing to visit our sales and servicing departments.

‘As a thank you, we arranged a family fun weekend, with competitions, a giant Scalextric, a hog roast and live DJ, as well as chance to get close to one of only 200 XL1 cars being made.

‘We were also honoured to welcome VIP guests for a special red-carpet reception which included a cavalcade of Volkswagen models old and new, workshop tours, a live jazz band and relaxing massages by therapists from Hoar Cross Hall Spa Hotel.

‘Altogether we think almost 1,000 people have visited the new showroom over the past week or so, and feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.’

The relocation, part of a £1.8million investment, has created 14 new jobs and enabled the company to deliver an improved service to customers, with a new 10-bay workshop and enlarged showroom space.

The company will make a donation to St Giles Hospice for every new and used car sold between now and the end of March.
