FOR the car buyer looking ‘fur’ something a bit different, a Leicester dealership has just the thing.
One of the vehicles in stock at Euronet Motors is a fur-covered Volkswagen Beetle called ‘Furbie’. Equipped with a 1.6-litre petrol engine, it’s only done 15,000 miles, even though it dates from 1978.
The car was acquired by Sam Bhimani, owner of the business. With a huge turn-key attached to the back and even a few cats’ whiskers, it’s certainly eye-catching – and there’s even lettering that promises ‘No animals have been hurt in the making of this vehicle’.
Asked if his dealership had ever handled anything similar before, Sam told us: ‘Yes, we have had loads of weird and wonderful things! I just like buying cars that are unique and different.
‘Although we have a lot of ex-lease, regular, run-of-the-mill stock, something like the Furbie just adds a bit of variety.
‘If I see something that stands out, I do tend to buy it. My wife thinks I’m mad but it just makes life a bit more interesting, especially when you’ve been in the job for 25 years.’
Asked if he’d had much interest in the car, Sam said: ‘We’ve been getting emails every day, with some people asking how the car should be washed. I brush it down a bit once in a while, that’s it really.’
Sam, who uses the car as an everyday runabout, is under the impression that the previous owner covered it in fur for a charity project of some kind.
He added: ‘It definitely gets attention, it’s just crazy. I’ve had Rolls Royces, Lamborghinis and Ferraris in stock before but nothing has received as much attention as this.
‘When people see this car drive by, it just puts a big smile on their face, no matter what sort of day they are having.’
Anyone interested in owning the MOT and tax-exempt vehicle will have to fork out £4,900.
