S M A Leeds / SMA / Scottish Motor Auctions Leeds branch; Rolls Royce saleA Rolls-Royce Phantom has been gone under the hammer at SMA Leeds for £129K, after being seized by the Police Vehicle Recovery Scheme as an uninsured vehicle.

Recent demands at auction have been from buyers looking for small and economical cars. But the sub-20mpg Rolls-Royce still attracted healthy attention from bidders eventually selling for premium price.

A combination of physical, telephone and online bidders saw the car rise from a £90,000 starting price, before it sold for an impressive £129,000 in a matter of minutes.

Auctioneer Tony Surgeon said: ‘It was a uniquely exciting auction for me, quite unlike anything I have sold before. Yet, just the same as any other car, in a few short minutes, the car was sold.

‘Perhaps, above all thought, it’s reassuring to know that the police are hot-on-the-heels of anybody who thinks they can drive uninsured, regardless of the type of car they drive.’
