IF you’ve always wanted a four-wheeled piece of television history but can’t splash out on a Batmobile or the General Lee, we have a 1990s Swedish estate for you!
This 1996 Volvo 850S Estate is the car driven by James Corden’s character Smithy in the BBC comedy Gavin & Stacey. It has a mighty 148,000 miles on the clock, but only 12,000 of those have been logged since it was sold by the production company.
It is, however, the real deal – the actual car from the series, complete with Smithy’s decals on the rear windows. Since Corden now has has a bit of automotive provenance thanks to his US talk show’s Carpool Karaoke segment, it could be worth investing in.
The 2.5-litre automatic petrol car comes with lavish luxuries such as a stereo that allows access to AM and FM radio and even plays cassettes. Anti-lock brakes, some slightly ropey alloys and power steering all come with the car, too.
Bidding on eBay is already at £1,420 – steep for this particular model – and the reserve hasn’t yet been met, although there are still five days to go, with the auction closing at just after 8pm on Saturday.
The car comes with a full MOT, so is it worth a punt? You can find it here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1996-Volvo-850-estate-Smithys-James-Corden-car-in-Gavin-and-Stacey-Full-MOT-/142827667670
