The new Skoda Octavia vRS has been revealed and it’ll be available for the first time as a plug-in hybrid.
The latest performance model from Skoda, now in its fourth-generation, will go on sale in this UK this autumn.
It will be available in either estate or hatchback, powered by either a petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid.
The new hybrid version pairs a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine to an electric motor for a combined output of 242bhp and 400Nm.
This will match the power output of the petrol but exceeds its torque figure. Its performance times are slightly slower, however, with Skoda claiming a 0-60mph of seven seconds and a top speed of 139mph.
It should also be able to cover up to 37 miles on electric power alone, too.
The petrol, a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit, is capable of 242bhp and 370Nm of torque, with a seven-speed gearbox sending power to the front wheels.
Skoda claims this will enable the vRS to go from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds and up to a top speed of 155mph.
The diesel, meanwhile, is a turbocharged 2.0-litre unit with 197bhp, while there’s the option of either front- or four-wheel-drive. However, it too utilises a seven-speed automatic gearbox like its petrol-powered stablemate.
Prices for the new Octavia vRS are expected to be released closer to the car’s on-sale date this autumn.
