AHEAD of its official unveiling tomorrow, Hyundai has released images of a revised version of its popular i20 model.
The new i20 features refreshed styling, enhanced equipment, lower CO2 emissions, and has only been lengthened by 55mm over the out-going model.
Under the bonnet lies the Korean firm’s new 74bhp 1.1-litre, three-cylinder ‘U-II’ diesel engine. When mated to the firm’s Blue Drive technologies, the engine emits 84 g/km of CO2 – the lowest of ‘any other car with a conventional powertrain’, says Hyundai.
The ‘ground-breaking’ engine will be joined by an upgraded version of Hyundai’s 1.4-litre ‘U-II’ 89bhp diesel unit that emits 96 g’km of CO2.
‘Fluidic sculpture’ now appears on the i20 compromising of Hyundai’s now signature hexagonal grille and new headlamp units. Hyundai’s European design studio have also turned their hand to re-profiling the front and rear bumpers, modifying the bonnet and given the i20 new wheel designs.
Allan Rushforth, senior vice president and CEO of Hyundai Motor Europe, said: ‘The i20 has been very popular with European buyers since it came to market in 2009, thanks to its combination of efficiency, quality, practicality and value.
‘With an enhanced engine line-up that includes the lowest CO2 missions for a conventional powertrain, and sharper styling influenced by fluidic sculpture, the All New i20 will appeal to a broader range of buyers, including younger consumers.
‘The assurance of our industry-best, comprehensive Five Year Triple Care package makes the All New i20 an even more attractive proposition.’
