BCA: Convertible values drop down

fbef35ee-9dae-4d6a-9a9b-45254205aee4BCA data reveals the value of convertibles have dropped in the last two months.

As expected, soft-top values tend to follow the same trend as the weather and BCA’s new data has revealed that convertible values have decreased since April.

While March achieved a 3.4 per cent increase in average convertible prices, due to Spring 2013 being recorded as the coldest in 50 years, April and May saw a notable decline in prices achieved at auction at 4.2 per cent and four per cent respectively.

BCA believe the recent inclement weather is responsible for the decline in convertible sales on the used car market this spring, reducing the level of interest from buyers. As a result, dealers are missing out on the traditional rise.

Editor of the BCA Used Car Market Report, Tim Naylor, said: ‘As the weather warms up in the spring, soft-top prices traditionally start to rise. But the absence of any sustained good weather this year appears to have dented the level of interest in convertibles.

‘Instead, for the three months of Spring 2013, we have seen a 1.6 per cent drop in values when compared to the same period last year.’

Naylor added: ‘The good news for buyers is that there is still a great choice of used convertibles in the marketplace and with long range weather forecasts giving mixed messages over what we can expect in the UK this summer, now could be a great time to buy.’
