HEAD of Mitsubishi Motors UK is helping to raise £1m with a charity auction in memory of football legend Sir Bobby Robson.

MD of Mitsubishi Motors UK and lifelong Newcastle fan, Lance Bradley, is chairman of the auction committee, Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Online Auction.

The money raised will go towards supporting clinical trials for new cancer treatments as well as ongoing support of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Donations will also go to two Suffolk hospitals, which are close to the hearts of the Robson family.

The first auction for the charity took place in 2011 and raised £248,000 thanks to prizes donated by the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, David Beckham, Lewis Hamilton and Ant and Dec.

This year, prizes include VIP tickets to the Mitsubishi-sponsored Badminton Horse Trials, a personal training session for two with England spinner Graeme

Bradley said: ‘There are some completely “money can’t buy” prizes and that’s the point of it. People have been so generous, it’s fantastic and it’s Sir Bobby’s name that drives it. There is bound to be something on the website that you would want and you’ll be helping to support some fantastic causes.’

He added: ‘It’s fantastic because literally everybody that you speak to, when you mention Sir Bobby’s name, they say “what can I do?” and it doesn’t matter how big or small it is, we have had people do some amazing things. We’ve set ourselves a big target this year but we’re hoping people will get behind us and help make it happen.’

The charity auction will take place between October 10 and 27.
