Luxury car dealer Harwoods is to close its sole Aston Martin franchise just months after selling off all of its JLR sites.
Harwoods Aston Martin Chichester is to cease trading from the end of the year, in news which was confirmed by CEO Archie Harwood on LinkedIn.
Writing on the platform, Harwood said that the business is now working to sell its last remaining Aston Martin stock before the franchise agreement comes to an end on December 30.
The announcement brings the curtain down on a partnership which has lasted more than two decades, with Harwoods first representing Aston Martin in Chichester back in 2002.
The firm opened its current site – a purpose-built Aston Martin centre on Terminus Road – in 2008, featuring a state-of-the-art showroom and workshop.
Confirming the news Harwood said: ‘Sadly our association with the Aston Martin franchise in Chichester will come to an end on 30th December.
‘Happily for my network, we now have exceptionally attractive offers available on the seven remaining new car stock vehicles which need a new home for the new year!’
The news comes just three months after Harwoods sold its JLR franchises to a Dubai-based investment group as part of a drive to ‘resize and reposition’ the car dealer.
In October, the family-run firm revealed a punishing £8.5m pre-tax loss for 2024, taking its total losses for the last two years to £20.3m before tax.
Harwoods was founded by Wallace Harwood way back in 1931 and is now under the control of his son, Guy and grandson, Archie.
As well as representing Aston Martin, the dealer group also operates a ‘Harwoods Assured’ used car centre from its Chichester premises.
Car Dealer has approached Harwoods for comment.
