ESSEX-based Mack Motor Group has ceased trading, Car Dealer understands.
The company operated out of two premises: a Mitsubishi and Mazda site in Gloucester Avenue, Chelmsford, and a Mazda-only showroom in Rayne Road, Braintree.
Both outlets have ceased operations.
A statement issued by Mazda’s press office said the closure of the business was down to ‘financial complications’, while other sources said there had been ‘a desperate reclamation of assets’ by both Mazda and Mitsubishi.
The Mazda statement in full read: ‘Due to financial complications of the Kelhalk t/a Mack Mazda business, it has been necessary for them to cease trading with immediate effect.
‘Mazda is keen to continue to provide products and services to existing and potential customers in the Chelmsford and Braintree areas and are working on solutions to do just that.
‘In the meantime, if any customers have questions or concerns, they should contact the Mazda customer relations team on 03457 484848.’
Mack Motor Group’s Facebook page reports that the Chelmsford showroom had been undergoing a refurbishment at the start of the year – and the dealership was advertising for a new salesman or woman only last month.
But Car Dealer was told by a well-placed source this afternoon: ‘They shut the doors about a week ago, and that was it. I feel sorry for the staff and the customers who have been affected.’
A spokesman for Mitsubishi confirmed that the manufacturer no longer operated a dealership in Chelmsford.
