The family-run Swanway Motor Group has installed life-saving defibrillators at all of its dealerships as it looks to protect staff and customers alike.

The firm has recently completed work to install the last of the devices, which are available for anyone to use 24-hours a day, following a £7,500 investment.

In addition to the new defibrillators, Swansway previously installed 12 units, bringing the total across the group to 22.

Commenting on the significance of the move, Andrew Darlington,  Swansway Motor Group’s health and safety manager, said: ‘We are pleased to have completed the installation of defibrillators across the group.

‘Our hope is that a circumstance never arises where they will need to be used, however, it is safer that the option is there.

‘We are keen to make the news known in the areas we operate so that the public is aware of where they can find a defibrillator if they need one.’

Swansway is the latest dealer group to invest in defibrillators following in the footsteps of the likes of Hendy and Vertu, which made similar investments last year.

The importance of dealers having the devices was highlighted last June when 82-year-old customer John Ryder went into cardiac arrest at Holdcroft Nissan Crewe.

He was helped by quick-thinking sales controller Cameron Love, 28, who had been trained in how to use the defrillator and was able to use the device to save the pensioner’s life.

His actions earned him a special Dealer Ambassador prize by Nissan as well as the Outstanding Achievement of the Year gong at the 2022 Used Car Awards.
