FORD has announced the recall of over 16,000 Transits – brought on by a faulty ‘R’ clip, which retains the brake pedal.
There is a possibility the clip can become detached, resulting in the disconnection of the brake pedal and brake failure.
The Ford Transit and Transit Custom vehicles affected were assembled in the Southampton and Kocaeli plants between 8th Oct 12 (Southampton 28th Sept 2012) and 6th Feb 13.
A Ford spokesperson said: ‘The safety and comfort of our customers are always top priorities at Ford Motor Company.
‘For their peace of mind and convenience, we have initiated a Safety Recall to correct a potential product concern on certain Ford Transit and Transit Custom vehicles.’
Transit customers shouldn’t be overly concerned as Ford assures us that ‘no accidents or injuries related to this concern have been reported. To our knowledge no customers have experienced this failure.’
Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Ford and asked to visit local dealers where a replacement part will be fitted ‘quickly and for free’.
VIN numbers affected are WF0KXXTTPKBS86741 to WF0UXXTTPUBU75804.
