THE North West-based Cox Motor Group has acquired another Honda car dealership.
This time they’ve purchased the Gordons Honda business in Wigan, adding to their market area that stretches down from Kendal to Southport, with sites in Lancaster and Blackpool too.
Their successful partnership with the Japanese manufacturer was the motivation for this latest acquisition.
Group financial director Helen Hayton said: ‘We have a strong, successful history of working with Honda.
‘Like us, they are very keen on giving the best value and service to consumers and this fits well with our company ethos.
‘Honda has always been very straightforward to deal with and very supportive. This latest acquisition further strengthens our relationship.’
This year has seen significant changes to the previously-limited Honda product line-up, with the launch of the new Jazz, updated Civic and CR-V models and a new contender in the small SUV segment, the all new HR-V.
The importance of the introduction of these new models is not lost on group sales director Geoff Stothert.
He said: ‘The timing is perfect! The new HR-V has created loads of new showroom interest and is selling very well, the sites feel alive and the mood is great. We expect to be really successful at Wigan as we increase the choice of used vehicles by a factor of five.’
Phil Webb, head of cars for Honda (UK), said: ‘With a completely new line-up of cars for 2015, there has never been a better time to be a Honda dealer. I know that Cox Motor Group will achieve great success with their new outlet in Wigan.’
After this latest acquisition, Cox Motor Group will employ 270 people and will turn over around £80 million in the next financial year. The company also operates two Seat dealerships and a single Volkswagen outlet along with three Honda motorcycle operations.
