THERE are many candidates for the best car currently on sale in the UK – and Autocar, the world’s oldest car title, has launched a public poll to name it – with the winner being announced after CDX16.
To start the search, Autocar’s expert testing team has shortlisted the 50 best cars currently on sale across a broad spectrum of classes from superminis to supercars, MPVs to SUVs, hatchbacks to estates.
Now it’s the turn of Autocar’s readers to name their favourite from this diverse list by casting their votes.
The poll, which will close two weeks from today, will whittle the 50 nominations down to 10, with all readers then being asked to vote again from that shortlist to pick a winner.
The overall winner, the Autocar Readers’ Champion, will be named at the all-new Autocar Awards held at The Wing, Silverstone, on May 24, right after CDX.
Jim Holder, editorial director of Autocar, PistonHeads and What Car?, said: ‘Shortlisting 50 cars was no easy task.
‘But despite the diversity of the cars we chose, the common theme is that the people who created them went further than would have ever been required for success in the marketplace. That is how an excellent car becomes a truly exceptional one.’
Tickets for the Autocar Awards are on sale now, with details available from Amy Duff at [email protected]. Numbers are strictly limited and tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis.
